Thank you so much for the kind words Kathy! Its a big deal to start your family on the kind of diet that will increase your health- It often increases expenses! But that is one of the reasons I started this blog. I want to show people how eating healthy can and does fit into a lower budget. We do have the extra help of great couponing, but even before we moved here I was able to keep the budget for the two of us around $50/week. We ate lots of real oatmeal for breakfast, PB&J on whole grain bread and brown rice based meals for dinner. We didn't have a ton of variety, but it was very doable! Now with such great couponing we can afford treats here and there along with organics- But those things, in my humble opinion are just extras. I feel that not eating all the junk that is out there is the first huge step towards taking control of your health! Have you looked in your area for a local produce co-op? That can be a great way to get lots of fresh, sometimes even local, produce for very cheap. Farmers Markets are also good for this. Check it out! And thanks for visiting the blog! Come back and see what's happening from time to time :-)

Found your blog site via Mary Hunt's blog...your sister mentioned it in a response...I love the great stuff you have on your blog!! We are a family dealing with some health issues (diabetic and heart related--so we look at calories, carbs, sugar, fats---you name it! My husband has the problems, but our (young adult) daughter told me,'if Dad can learn to eat diffently, I can learn to eat outside my box, too'. The results are that since late June, my husband has shed about 32 lbs., my daughter, 15+ lbs. and myself--15-20 lbs. Hubby is learning to make better food choices and my daughter and I 'feel' better! I would LOVE to find a lo-cal/lo-carb/lo-sugar/lo-fat cake recipe...there HAS to be ONE out there!! Also, my best yard sale find this summer---a beautiful violin and bow (but no case)--for $5. I checked online, after the purchase, and found out it would retail for about $750...! Also, we look to Dave Ramsey for a LOT of wise advice, and am happy to say--we are DEBT free...we are on a reduced income, and looking to find ways to save and still afford the necessary extras that have happened into our lives---more health related expenses, travel expenses as we have 3 young grandchildren, whom we love, but we must drive up to 4 1/2 hrs to visit, and the extra fruits, veggies, and (wheat) brand products we have added to our diets...we go through more fresh fruits, veggies and wheat bread (3 loaves a week!)than ever, before. I'm looking forward to visiting your blog to find great ideas! Keep up the great work, and sharing of your saving ideas!! --Kathy
