Frugal Friends’ Friday!

Welcome back to Frugal Friends’ Friday! I hope you enjoy these tips and put them into practice- in order to save your family money! Let’s see what we have this week…

One area I recently realized we’re ‘throwing money down the drain’ is through the number of electronic devices we leave plugged in all the time (TV, DVD player, computer, coffee maker, etc.).   They draw a lot of power even when they’re off.  I read in Money magazine that ‘a PC in sleep mode can use a third as much electricity as it does when on.  Cut the waste by putting as many of these hidden energy suckers on the same power strip as you can; then flip the strip off at night.  Monthly savings: $8.’”  – Stephanie, Cedarville OH

Once I heard someone talking on this subject and tell me to “turn off all the lights one night before bed, and take a moment to look around- See all those red lights all over the house? Those lights mean each and every on of those appliances are using energy, even as you sleep!” I know to many of you $8 may not seem like much, but it is our combined forces that help us save so much money around the house. If you’re saving $8 a month night time energy waste, $20 by using a programmable thermostat, $10 by using water saving techniques, $6 by turning off lights when you leave a room…well, you can see how it would start to add up! It’s a lifestyle of saving (and minimizing waste!).

Just wanted to pass along a resource that a good friend of mine has started, and it is sort of frugal.  Basically a way to get rid of (and make some money on) used personalized items.  I have a few things (bags, [my daughter's] burp cloths that have a [letter] on them) that have no purpose anymore, and I’m going to try to sell them. It is also a way to purchase used personalized items.  Like recycled names! themonogramswap.com “    – Emily, Charlotte NC

Holy cow what an awesome idea! I’m sure many people would appreciate this- It’s always difficult to find a new home for monogrammed items, and I know for me it would be a great way to buy them at a discount. Thanks Emily!

So there you have it folks, another week of Frugal Friends’ Friday in the books. If YOU have a frugal tip you’d like to share, please send it to frugalmegan@gmail.com- I know we all could use a little help getting creative with frugality! And it’s nice to be reminded of even the simplest of things.

Here’s to living- Happier, Healthier, more FRUGAL lives!
